2009 A Nintendo call center. Speech analytics. IVR routing. The first chapter.

Fifteen years later, the path still runs through
launch, scale, and build the machine.

I’m Tony Valcarcel. This is the story of how I went from onboarding technology for customer support at Nintendo — to pioneering community commerce at Amazon, founding Twitch Prime’s marketing team, launching MUT Rewards at EA Sports, rebuilding startups in Seattle, and leading GTM on AAA titles like Shrapnel and Legacy of Kain Remastered.

One thread through every chapter: build the machine, then scale it.

I started in video games in 2009 as an operator — onboarding speech analytics for Nintendo call centers, optimizing IVR routing, and helping integrate Oracle with Slalom. That foundation in systems and data shaped everything that came after.

Today at Glittercloud Solutions I bring that same rigor to startups and mid-sized companies that need a senior operator who has already done it inside the world’s largest platforms — and on the scrappiest founding teams.

15+ Years in video games, tech, and GTM — from customer analytics to AAA launches

The journey

From Nintendo call-center analytics to founding Glittercloud — and every launch in between.

2009 — The foundation

Nintendo of America

Customer analyst · operations & technology

I joined the video games industry as a customer analyst, onboarding new technology to make support operations smarter — including a speech analytics program to analyze and optimize call-center performance and IVR routing.

  • Helped lead the integration of Oracle with Slalom consulting
  • Built the operational mindset I still use: measure, route, improve, repeat
Madden Ultimate Team

2011 – 2015

Amazon · Video games marketing

Leadership roles in retail video games marketing

I spent the bulk of my career at Amazon. On the retail video games team I pioneered community management and direct-to-consumer sales motions — including one of the first charity affiliate relationships on Reddit’s /r/gamedeals, a program that still exists today and, when I left, was driving hundreds of thousands of dollars in charitable donations through game sales on Amazon.com.

  • Established community-led growth before it was a playbook every startup copies
  • Moved to Appstore & Game Studios — helped launch mobile titles including Saber’s Edge and Til Morning’s Light
EA Sports
Madden NFL

2015

EA Sports

Senior product manager · loyalty & esports

I took a brief break from Amazon to launch the loyalty program for Madden Ultimate Team — MUT Rewards — a program thousands of players joined, engaging more deeply and spending more heavily on Ultimate Team.

  • Concept through GTM: branding, business modeling, KPI development, and product delivery
  • Proof that retention systems — not just acquisition — drive revenue in live-service games
Prime

2016 – 2019

Amazon · Twitch Prime founding team

Marketing lead · 0 → 10M+ members

A huge opportunity pulled me back to Amazon: lead marketing for a brand-new product, Twitch Prime. I joined the founding team and grew it from zero users and myself as the only marketer to more than 10 million members and a 12-person marketing team.

  • First Prime benefit launched simultaneously in seven countries
  • Expanded to 200+ countries; 40+ co-marketing campaigns with Fortnite, Hearthstone, Call of Duty, Madden, and more
  • Led 15 marketers and UX designers at peak scale
Leafly Convoy

2019 – 2021

Seattle startups · Leafly & Convoy

Marketing leader · B2B & digital growth

I left Amazon to help Seattle startups move faster. At Leafly I launched the first international Budtender Tour — a sponsored event that drove ad sales across the platform and B2B revenue for advertising partners. At Convoy I led digital marketing through a full website rebuild: first as an independent contributor, then scaling delivery through a professional agency as team leader.

  • Leafly: grew marketing from 5 to 20 people in three months; first $1M 4/20 campaign
  • Convoy: team of 8; 100%+ increase in qualified leads after relaunch
Shrapnel Legacy of Kain
Shrapnel Legacy of Kain Remastered

2021 – Today

Founder · GTM lead · AAA launches

Glittercloud Solutions & select engagements

I founded my own company and led marketing for high-profile game launches — including Shrapnel (the $SHRAP token reached a $1B market cap with $20M+ daily trading volume at peak), Wildcard, Sparkball, and The Wanderers. In parallel I served as GTM lead for Crystal Dynamics on Legacy of Kain Remastered, working directly with the Chief Strategy Officer.

  • Glittercloud: $0 → $1M+ consulting ARR; launches across remasters, indie, and live-service titles
  • Shrapnel: 23K → 360K on X; $500K+ pre-sales 12+ months before release; partnerships with Razer, Puma, Alpine F1
  • Corporate scale and startup scrappiness — in the same career, often in the same quarter
